On June 17, Leifeng.com reported that, according to Reuters, TikTok had completed the migration of data information from American users to Oracle's servers, thus addressing the concerns of American regulators about the integrity of the application data.
Reported that the news has been confirmed by the company.
It is understood that Oracle discussed acquiring a minority stake in TikTok in 2020, when Byte Beat was under pressure to sell the application in the United States.
TikTok said that according to the new partnership, the cloud computing giant now stores all of TikTok's US user data on Oracle data servers in the United States.
American user data is not controlled or supervised by TikTok.
As early as March this year, TikTok, the overseas version of TikTok, which belongs to Byte Beating, was exposed to be close to reaching an agreement with Oracle.
Oracle stores TikTok's American user information, while Byte Beating cannot access these data.
Byte beating hopes to solve the concern of CFIUS on data security.
It was reported that TikTok had previously stored its US user data in a data center in Virginia and backed up in Singapore.
After the transaction with Oracle is concluded, bytes will delete the private data of American users from their own data centers and completely rely on and store it in Oracle's American servers.
At present, however, Virginia and Singapore centers are still used to back up data.
TikTok related people said that TikTok also set up a special US data security management team, called "USDS", to serve as the gatekeeper of US user information and isolate it from byte hopping.
He said that under the leadership of Andrew Bonillo, senior manager of TikTok's global security department, USDS is currently reporting to TikTok's CEO Zhou Shou.
Another senior manager of USDS is Will Farrell, who previously worked under Roland Cloutier, the chief security officer of TikTok.
According to the transaction agreement, the US data management team is composed of hundreds of people, including content reviewers, engineers, users and product operators.
The source said that TikTok was discussing a structure under which the team would operate independently and not be controlled or supervised by TikTok.
The source added that TikTok is also exploring cooperation with other technology companies in firewall and network security measures.
It is reported that the US Department of Commerce is considering formulating new rules to deal with the potential security risks of TikTok and other foreign applications, and may even ban some of them.
If these rules are adopted, TikTok may be forced to accept third-party audit, source code inspection and monitoring of user data logs.
TikTok and the United States, two years of interaction, TikTok is one of the most popular social media applications in the world
