On March 7, Whiplash News, TikTok, a short video application, said on Sunday that it would suspend live video and upload services in Russia because the company was evaluating the impact of the new media law signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday.
TikTok said in a series of tweets: "We have no choice but to suspend live video and new content upload services when we evaluate the security impact of this law." TikTok said that the in application message function will not be affected by this decision.
On Friday, Putin signed a bill that would impose a maximum sentence of 15 years' imprisonment on the disseminators of "false news" about the Russian army.
